UniSafe ANU Security Training Program  2 - 14 December 2002

The first ANU UniSafe team has completed an intensive 12-day training program in security operations conducted by Safecity Training Academy. All course participants achieved distinction marks and successfully obtained a nationally recognised qualification in security.  The program included a nationally recognised security training course and specialised topics including campus security, campus invasion and campus crime.

The UniSafe team is comprised of ANU students specially selected by the ANU UniSafe coordinator Alex Chryss (Manager Security) and Cameron Bartkowski (Assistant Manager ANU Security).

During the training program, the UniSafe team participated in many role plays, including bomb threat response, emergency evacuation, escorting of clients, campus security and OH&S.

Professor Richards D.V.C. ANU presented the certificates to the team.

The First UniSafe ANU Team receives the Certificate II in Security (Guarding) on the 13/12/2002 at the ANU (The Smart University).

They will make a difference! The UniSafe team's primary role will be to care for the safety of students and staff. They will also carry out foot patrols and report intruders to security.  Their presence will help minimise campus invasion and campus crime.

UniSafe team members are not expected to engage offenders, or to act as law enforcement, or security officers.

Since the initial course in 2002, Safecity Training Academy staff have conducted two more UniSafe programs.  We will be publishing more images of these groups as they become available.

These young UniSafe participants have consistently shown a remarkable sense of duty, sincere dedication to professionalism and a formidable team spirit qualities that  equal and indeed surpass those found in many "professional" security guards.

Suffice it to say, that the diligence, enthusiasm and active participation of the UniSafe groups have made these courses a memorable experience for all of us at Safecity.
